SWAMP Stop – Pause Before You Push Forward
You don’t want to waste precious energy charging ahead without a clear plan to move from your current “stuck” state to real, measurable success. Every so often, it’s essential to pause—observe, reflect, assess your environment, and measure your climb toward your summit.
Much like a mountaineer caught in shifting fog, you may need to establish a temporary base and reassess the path ahead. Rapid reassessment based on new intelligence often determines whether progress continues—or stalls.
Before launching any improvement initiative, it’s worth studying a relevant case. One example: a young individual facing a significant challenge while simultaneously managing a pandemic and other pressures. Distance, limited contact, lack of time and funding—all barriers stacked against a timely goal. Yet the process of deconstructing that challenge provides insights transferable to your own scenario.
This kind of exercise is not just training—it’s benchmarking.
Whether in business, ministry, or mission-based organizations, this approach—bridging civilian and military thought frameworks—supports transformation and agility. By reverse-engineering military planning models, we gain entrepreneurial tools designed for asymmetric environments.
Why Case Studies Matter
They offer in-depth, real-world insights into how individuals or teams work through complex, evolving tasks.
Consulting strategies built on strong case studies offer grounded solutions tailored to specific client challenges.
Presenting familiar pressures (tight deadlines, unexpected events, conflicting priorities) allows teams to apply principles in meaningful ways.
These scenarios simulate real-life execution while juggling competing demands like job stress, pandemics, or personal life.
The Entrepreneur’s Reality Check
Small businesses operate in asymmetric markets—competing with large entities while navigating resource constraints. Owners often wear every hat, balancing deep subject matter expertise with the weight of survival.
That’s why we introduce methods like:
- Gap & Pave (GAP) Exercises – Benchmarking through detailed case analysis to reveal operational blind spots and innovation opportunities.
- Rapid Asymmetric Action Process (RAAP) – A practical framework to visualize, analyze, and execute under real-world conditions.
- GATES PETLL & Gator Table 1 (GT1) – Integrated models helping teams assess their progress and adjust strategically.
These tools empower you to think tactically, act decisively, and adapt continuously.
In short: we’re not just teaching what to think—we’re sharpening how to think through complexity, under pressure, in pursuit of lasting business strength.
Rapid Asymmetric Action Process (RAAP): Case Study Benchmarking Example
Swamp Session Special Request (SSSR)
This case study will provide you research of a method involving an up-close, in-depth, and detailed examination of a unique case involving a real-life example of sorting through a specific task.
You may think what does this case have to do with me? The intent is to provide an example to help you cross correlate the process to your situation.
Then intent was the need for speed and as well show humanistic elements for you to learn from. Life is not pretty and usually unpolished.
To be effective consulting processes maximize the use of case study research in which detailed consideration can be given to the development of a specific person, group, or situation over a period. The presentation of a real-life task, conditions, and standard provides instances of an event which can be used for analysis to illustrate a thesis or principle.
The principle in this scenario includes an individual in need of advice to prepare for a task and the receiver understanding the intent and translating that into a plan of action. Then executing the task while concurrently managing real-life competing demands (job, pandemic, family life management, etc.). Remember one key aspect you will face as a small business is the unequal (asymmetric) business landscape in a very competitive environment.
In a Gap & Pave (GAP) exercise a real example of generic benchmarking is used to present a sample case study applying asymmetry to your potential business plans.
The following is an introduction video used to help visualize the process.

In the Global Gator Guru specialized process, critical enabling entrepreneurial competencies will assist with methods for you to maximize your agility and adaptability in the element you want to lead, build and grow. Knowing how-to-think through a challenge to visualize, describe, and translate that into a solution with a good deliberate decision-making process and adaptable business and life leading procedure.
Example Rapid Asymmetric Action Process (RAAP):
Swamp Session Special Request (SSSR)
Task: Receive request, confirm receipt, assess situation, develop, and execute a concept to assist an individual in the preparation for the military and help develop a survival sense.
Conditions: Given a highly motivated individual preparing to ensure the military asking for help; a pandemic situation limiting options of movement and engagement; long geographical distance challenges.
Standard: Gator 6 will quickly draft and execute a plan to provide a “distance learning program” using available resources and provide information to candidate Gator Charlie within X amount of time.
Note: Gator 6 is my radio call sign – Gator Charlie is the call sign for the candidate requesting support.
Some questions the candidate may have been asking himself as the dauting task of figuring out how achieve success, exposed the realization he was facing a gap in the bridge on the path to his goals.
Candidate Gator Charlie has learned through the Gator process lifelong skills needed to develop an understanding of exactly is the cause and effect relationship between one element and another.
As you will see with the Gator process anything can be applicable to find value to apply to comparison to another. You can correlate a case study in a life challenge to volunteer for a rough task like joining the military, in the same manner you approach the tough asymmetric business environments.
The GATES PETLL course institutionalizes the need to develop the how-to-think framework of thought. You will rarely find a scenario which exactly matches your own specific “what” of problems you may face. But you can glean other situations by correlating (associating, relating, comparing, linking) the variable which can be converted for application to possible solutions for your gaps.
You can find those powerful words to plans of action to eliminate the void between your desired end-state state and your current state.
From the deepest dirtiest depths of a murky swamp to the top of menacing mountain, this trail is a lot like the daily trek of an individual’s day.
The common theme along these are the nastiest word of all – problems – you have found the right Global Gator Guru to help you find the solution. Your problems are like obstacles – Global Gator Guru can help you remove them using many years of experience in leadership, training, business, education, service, and operations fields.
If you are stuck in murky swamp of life it may seem too much for you to handle. With Gator 6 assistance I can help you sort through complex problems and finally have confidence to commit to the entrepreneurial mountain of success.
With a meticulous problem-solving process, we will run through a sequential and methodic effort from a gap analysis, problem and opportunity identification, and development of alternatives and execution the way through ever perpetual positive cycle of integration and evaluation.
Why not take advantage of the employment of a Global Gator Guru Swampism mindset. Sure, many have taken on the task before and successfully accomplished their goals. But many have not or had to learn very hard lessons along the way.
On rough average less than 70 percent of candidates pass high demand programs such as the special operations or officer candidate schools. When I went through Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) Course less than half of the class graduated.
In the business world, the Small Business Administration (SBA) reports similar numbers of attrition with approximately half of business surviving less than five (5) years.
Why not take advantage of learning by getting dirty with sleeves up leveraging years of experience and dedication? You need increase your chances for success through a process to teaching you how-to-think rather than what-to-think to get be mentally and physically prepared to get from Swamp Ugly to the top of Mount Success.
RAAP GAP – Rapid Asymmetric Action Process (RAAP) Gap-&-Pave Sample:
TSA: Rapid preparation for a momentous high demand responsibility.
Gap: Gator Charlie candidate was preparing to join the military within 3 months and needed to fill a void in information to be better prepared to achieve minimum qualification standards IAW US Airforce requirements for entry into the Special Operations Command (SOCOM).
Swamp Filling, Trail Blazing & Road Paving: Commit to a plan including distance learning, self-discipline to train to improve physical readiness, and engage in active dialogue with Gator 6.
Course and Plan of Action:
Given the task, conditions, and standards Gator Guru decided to develop a series of Swamp Sessions to hopefully answer many questions on joining the military. Perhaps not the most eloquent, but direct from the heart guidance to help a young person striving for service to something greater than themselves.

Gators…watch Your lane.
Note: I could have whined about doing my best with video editing and making things pretty, but by the time I could dress up the videos candidate Gator Charlie would already be on way to school. Besides real life in the service at times is not pretty. It is tough and demanding and we must be able to adapt and sink or swim.
